Artist: Sculpture

Dawn Benson

Much of Dawn's inspiration is drawn from her own experiences, relationships and feelings. Over the last few years she has begun to explore the deep bond that can develop between people and animals.

More about Dawn Benson

Born in Canada but moving to England as a small child, Dawn Benson trained as a graphic designer at Twickenham College of Technology. She worked as a graphic designer for seventeen years before returning to sculpture and painting. Dawn produces stylised, figurative sculptures in bronze, which she initially models in clay, plaster or wax. She works on an intimate, ‘tabletop' scale and also produces large-scale sculptures for outside. Families and relationships are a recurring theme.

A mother herself, much of Dawn's inspiration is drawn from her own experiences, relationships and feelings. Over the last few years she has begun to explore the deep bond that can develop between children and horses. Her work captures an element of tension, humour and sensitivity, leaving one with the impression that there is often more than meets the eye. Dawn exhibits her work in exhibitions and galleries around the UK, and has pieces in collections around the world.
