Artist: Sculpture

Sandra Camargo

Sandra's work engages a dialogue of shape, form, and light — exploring how light moves through or falls upon stone, and how negative space is drawn into the work as a defining presence.

More about Sandra Camargo

Born in Colombia, Sandra is a self-taught stone sculptor who works with traditional hand-carving tools, consciously rejecting mass production and consumerism. Her work explores shape, form and light—how light travels through stone or interacts with its surface, and how negative space becomes an integral part of the sculpture.

A recurring theme in her practice is discovering the story contained within each stone, and exploring how viewers may respond to or connect with the feelings and emotions generated by the piece.

Her work has been selected for exhibitions at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, the Royal Cambrian Academy in Wales, Messum’s London, Mall Galleries in London, Penwith Gallery in Cornwall, Delamore Arts in Devon, Cotswold Sculpture Park, and The Garden at Miserden in the Cotswolds.

Sandra was selected for the professional development programme run by New Platform Art in 2021. She won the CAS Emerging Sculptors Development Award in 2023, was shortlisted for the BADA Art Prize in 2024 (British Antique Dealers’ Association), and won the ING Discerning Eye Sculpture Prize in 2025.

She lives and works in Kent.
