A Grand Day Out at Talos

Updated for visiting our Summer Exhibition in 2024

Being in a remote setting brings many benefits, the rolling countryside setting being but one. However we do recognise that coming here isn't on everyone's doorstep and would like to recommend some suggestions to make your visit part of a grand day out.

THE WHITE HORSE in Compton Bassett www.whitehorse-comptonbassett.co.uk (6 miles from Talos) which is a lovely village pub with a big garden - they do absolutely top notch restaurant food (not cheap) - generally considered to be the pick of the local eateries. Booking essential! They also have good quality chalet style rooms for anyone wanting to make a weekend of it - lovely village setting.

WESTBROOKwww.westbrookbromham.co.uk (3 miles from Talos Gallery) which does a wonderful lunch (roast at weekends) and has a huge garden. Always friendly and easy to find from the gallery.

THE BLACK HORSE at Cherhill www.theblackhorsecherhill.com (4.5 miles from Talos Gallery) also does great pub lunches and a fantastic view of the Cherhill White Horse and Lansdowne Monument — both also visible from our gallery. Despite being situated directly on the main A4, there are fantastic walks up to the White Horse, the Monument and Oldbury Iron Age Hillfort, with spectacular views over West Wiltshire.

BOWOOD HOUSE After you have enjoyed the gallery and revive on food then why not round off the day with a visit to the historic Bowood House (Talos Gallery was originally the estate diary!) and ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped Gardens only 5 minutes drive away.

If you are looking for more local walks or any other local recommendations please do ask Richard and he will be happy to share.
